Pear Buckwheat Pancakes with Honey Ricotta and Ginger

Nothing says hearty breakfast like buckwheat pancakes packed with satisfying protein, fiber and nutrients. Buckwheat is actually a fruit seed, not a cereal grain (who knew?). Besides having a delicious, earthy, wholesome taste, it contains nutrients that can help regulate blood sugar and reduce the risk of diabetes, and can also promote cardiovascular health, actually strengthening capillary walls. It also has tons of minerals and antioxidants. In short, it’s packed with good stuff, and all the good stuff finds its way, along with real whole wheat flour, into Hodgson Mill Buckwheat Pancake Mix.  Read More »

Chocolate Studded Oatmeal Bars

When it comes to home baking, quality ingredients make all the difference. Take these Chocolate Studded Oatmeal Bars, for example. They’re made with Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Flour and Scharffen Berger Semisweet Chocolate Chunks. Sure they would be good with run-of-the-mill flour and chocolate chips, but my philosophy has always been that if you’re going to take the time to make something from scratch, you want it to turn out great. Therefore, start with great ingredients. Because these bars include Hodgson Mill whole wheat flour (the entire bran and germ are stone ground, preserving all of the grain’s natural nutrients and great taste) and 62% cacao chocolate chunks; they’re immediately transformed into something so much better than your average cookie. Read More »

Smoky Mac and Cheese

This is the perfect dish to warm you up and chase away some of those winter blues. Just thinking of melted cheese makes me feel better already. The addition of smoked cheddar cheese gives this classic dish a more complex flavor and the buttery panko breadcrumb topping bumps up the appeal. To take this recipe up another notch, I’ve included Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Elbows. Like all Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat pastas, these elbows are made from 100% Durum whole wheat, the highest quality wheat available. And the hearty texture and great whole wheat taste truly compliments a rich dish like this. With Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat pasta, my family is eating healthier and getting more nutrition than they would if I’d have made this dish from regular white pasta. Read More »

Mini Whole Wheat Banana Pancake Muffins

I used Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Pastry Flour in this recipe because it’s more finely ground and gives the muffins a lighter texture than regular whole wheat flour does. But, I have a feeling Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat or Hodgson Mill White Whole Wheat would work just as well. I also threw in a half cup of mini chocolate chips just for kicks. They’re optional, but a tasty way to get a little chocolate in the morning. You’ll need about two browning bananas, too. Read More »

Butterscotch White Whole Wheat Cookies

Ho! Ho! Ho! We’re in full holiday mode at my house and we’ve picked up the pace to bake as many of our favorite cookies as we can before Christmas is over. So many to choose from and so little time left! These Butterscotch White Whole Wheat Cookies were next on our list, and although they may not have a fancy name, they sure make up for it in taste. They’re filled with butterscotch chips and dry-roasted cashews that create a fantastic salty-sweet combination in each bite. You’ll never guess that there’s Hodgson Mill White Whole Wheat Flour in these cookies. The texture, a little more robust than white flour but less hearty than Hodgson Mill’s traditional whole wheat flour, is spot on. Paired with the chopped cashews, the taste is so mild it nearly goes undetected in the buttery, sweet dough. I knew I couldn’t let the season pass without baking up a batch of these tasty cookies! Read More »

Creamy Turkey Lasagna with Spinach and Mushrooms

What’s one of the best parts about Thanksgiving dinner? You got it – the leftovers. I intentionally roast a bigger turkey than we need to make sure that I’ll have plenty of leftovers for sandwiches and to use in other recipes. This Creamy Turkey Lasagna with Spinach and Mushrooms is one of my favorite ways to use leftover turkey. Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Lasagna noodles are layered between a creamy sauce of garlic-herb cheese, leeks, mushrooms, and fresh spinach with roasted turkey, fresh mozzarella and Parmesan scattered throughout. You’ll be just as excited as I am to have leftover turkey after trying this dish. Read More »

Savory Sweet Potato and Cannelini Bean Pie with Whole Wheat Olive Oil Crust

I’ve been experimenting. My philosophy is, start with good ingredients that you love, and whatever you make can’t be all bad. (Within reason: I’m not advocating for shrimp in chocolate sauce or anything.) But how about sweet potatoes, with rosemary and goat cheese? Sign me up. I knew I was getting close to something great with this pie when one of my taste testers said, “Oh, wow. I could eat this several times a day.” Whoohoo! Read More »

My, oh my – if you’re looking for a great fall cookie recipe I have one for you right here. Filled with Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Flour, Hodgson Mill Naturally White Flour, fresh apple, oats and cinnamon – these cookies are a fantastic reminder of everything good about the season. Top them with some browned-butter frosting and now we’re at a whole new level- and one to which I’m very happy to go. Read More »

Cherry-Chocolate Whole Wheat Bread

This recipe for Cherry-Chocolate Whole Wheat Bread begins with a box of Hodgson Mill Honey Whole Wheat Bread Mix. The lightly sweet, whole wheat dough is the perfect background for the tart, brandy-soaked cherries and milk chocolate chunks. And Hodgson Mill uses all-natural ingredients in all of its products including this bread mix, so my from-scratch mantra is intact – just simplified. I love it when that happens. Read More »

Apple Pie Crumb Bars

Soccer season has started and we’ve had to surrender our schedules to keep up with practices and games for two of our girls. Now we love soccer – my husband is even a coach – and we support our girls and their teams 100 percent, but it is harder to find time to bake on the weekends now. That doesn’t stop us from wanting dessert though – namely apple pie. This recipe for Apple Pie Crumb Bars is quicker to put together than traditional apple pie and it includes Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Pastry Flour, so it’s a healthier way to get our dessert fix, too. Read More »
