Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Great as an appetizer, snack or stack them on a hoagie bun for a great sandwich. Make sure you have napkins close at hand.


  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 2-3 Tbsp. onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup Hodgson Mill Gluten Free Quick Rolled Oats
  • 1-2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4-1/2 cup brown sugar, (depends how sweet you like it)
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced


Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat an oven safe 9x13-inch pan with oil or cooking spray.

In a large bowl, mix ground beef, egg, salt, pepper, onion and oats together well. Shape into 1-inch meatballs. Heat olive oil in large skillet on medium heat. Brown meatballs on all sides. Drain excess oil from meatballs on paper towel lined plate. Place meatballs in baking pan.

In a small bowl, stir together ketchup, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and lemon juice. Pour sauce over meatballs and stir to ensure sauce covers all the meatballs well.

Bake 25-30 minutes until internal temperature reaches 160°-165°F.
