Sprinkle yeast on warm water; stir to dissolve.
Pour boiling water over butter or shortening in mixing bowl, stir in sugar, wheat bran and salt.
Cool to lukewarm.
Beat egg and stir into dissolved yeast mixing well.
Stir in flour 1/2 cup at a time.
Cover and let rise in warm place until almost doubled – about 2-1/2 hours.
Drop dough from spoon into greased muffin-pan cups, filling cups half full.
Cover and let rise until doubled (about 1 hour).
Bake at 375º F for 15 minutes.
