One Pan Cheesy Sausage Penne

A quick and satisfying one pan meal!


  • 1-2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 12-16 oz. smoked sausage, sliced thin
  • 3/4 cup onion, diced
  • 1-2 Tbsp. garlic, minced
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes, optional, to taste
  • 2 cups chicken broth, or vegetable broth
  • 1 can 14oz. diced tomato
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 8oz. Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Penne, about 2-1/2 cups
  • 1/4 tsp. salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/3 cup green onion, chopped for garnish


Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sausage and onions, cook 5 minutes or until onions are soft and translucent. Add garlic and red pepper flakes and cook 2 more minutes until fragrant. Add broth, tomatoes, milk and pasta:bring to a boil, then cover and simmer 15 minutes or until pasta is desired tenderness. Stir in salt and pepper and stir in cheese until melted and smooth.
