Grease baking sheets.
Mix dry yeast into 2
cups flour in a medium bowl. In a large bowl, beat together sugar, egg and
salt. Add water to egg mixture and stir. Add flour mixture to the liquid
mixture; beat until well blended. Add remaining 2 cups flour and knead 5
minutes in a mixer with dough hook or 10 minutes by hand.
Cover dough with
greased plastic wrap; allow to rise for 15 minutes. Punch down dough, cover
again with greased plastic wrap and allow to rise another 15 minutes. Punch
down dough and form into desired bun shape. Place buns onto prepared baking
sheets, allowing 2-inches between each bun for rising, cover with greased
plastic wrap; allow to rise for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to
350°F. Bake buns for 20 minutes. Allow buns to cool completely on a cooling
rack. Slice each bun in two to use.
