Premium Quality

There's a reason our logo says "premium quality". It applies to the ingredients we use, the products we make, how we make them, and the standards we apply at every step.

We choose premium wheat, oats, rye, corn, of the highest grade, from the U.S.A. We clean it twice before grinding, removing the chaff and broken kernels. Only the plumpest, ripest grain berries make it through.

We mill with premium methods. The way Hodgson Mill grinds grains today is not much different from how Alva Hodgson did it 1882. We mill the grains gently and carefully between two millstones, cut and shaped from genuine North Carolina red granite. When one pound of grains enters the stones, one pound of flour or meal comes out.

This premium milling process, which remains cooler than other methods, ensures that the grain's nutritious germ, bran and natural oils are fully preserved.

Food Safety

Hodgson Mill is Certified for Food Safety by BRC

Most people hear the word “auditor” and run away, but we welcome food safety auditors into our manufacturing facility every year because we’re serious about quality and safety. These food safety professionals check our plant from top to bottom, and quiz our employees on best practices. Questions might focus on safe allergen handling, safety equipment like metal detectors, and policies that help ensure the best quality food, like testing ingredients and blends before they go out to consumers like you.

Achieving “Grade AA” requires a real commitment to safety throughout the organization, and stellar training for all levels of employees. We’re glad to strive for this standard, so our customers can feel at ease knowing that Hodgson Mill products are the safest and highest quality on the market.

BRC stands for British Retail Consortium, a leading global safety and quality certification program. BRC is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), an organization that sets global standards for food safety.

Certified Amazing

We pride ourselves on third-party certifications. We believe these standards help our customers, since you don't have to take our word on our quality -- we have invited experts doublecheck our processes and make sure that we're doing things right.

National Celiac AssociationHodgson Mill products are certified by the National Celiac Association, and tested in a third party lab to ensure that our products contain no more than 5 ppm (parts per million) gluten - even lower than the FDA standard of 20 ppm!

A gluten free diet is the only doctor-approved treatment for celiac disease, an autoimmune disorder of digestion which affects about 1 in 100 people of all ages and makes it impossible for them to digest gluten. Gluten is a protein found in certain grains, including strains of wheat, barley, and rye. Even more people have wheat or gluten allergies or sensitivities and feel better when they avoid gluten in their diet.

  • We’re committed to making Gluten Freedom easy. And delicious. We make over 80 high-quality Gluten Free products, including baking mixes, flours, cereals, sides, pastas.
  • We use premium ingredients and whole grains — not just cheap starches, like many lower-quality gluten free products on the market.
  • We use dedicated equipment — meaning it only handles gluten-free ingredients — and all of our employees are trained to handle allergens with care to avoid cross-contamination.
  • In fact, our main Gluten Free production lines are also free of the top 8 allergens (dairy, egg, soy, peanut, tree-nut, meat, shellfish, and fish) — so those with complicated food allergies can rest easy. Our Customer Service team is happy to talk with you about our facilities.

Non-GMO CertifiedWe proudly display the trusted Non-GMO Project Seal. Hodgson Mill has over 100 products Non-GMO verified. We started earlier than anybody, and we're still a leader in responsible sourcing, testing, and traceability. We work with the Non-GMO Project, which requires stringent documentation and testing, to be sure our customers know how much we care. Countless customers have told us how much they appreciate the extra care that we put into sourcing and using Non-GMO grains, and that they feel it is the right choice for them and their families. We are also working to convert even more of our products and formulas so that they can be verified as well.

OrganicHodgson Mill's organic products carry the highest grade of certification, USDA Organic Certified by Oregon Tilth. Organic certification signifies that a product was made without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides, and no part of the process utilized genetical modification.

Whole GrainsHodgson Mill is proud to be a part of the Whole Grains Council. You will find the Whole Grains emblem on many of our healthy whole grain products, including cereals, flours, baking mixes, pastas, and sides.

What is 'Whole Grains?" it means it contains the entire grain, including the nutritious bran, germ, and endosperm.

For example, all-purpose flour is not whole grain - the bran (fiber) and germ (oils, fiber, and vitamins) are removed and only the light, starchy endosperm of the grain is left. Eating whole grains is associated with improved cardiovascular and digestive health, including decreased risk of heart attacks, high blood pressure, digestive irregularity, diabetes, and even certain types of cancers. With all those benefits, why wouldn't we care about providing these healthy options for our customers?

Environmental Sustainability

Hodgson Mill has always relied on renewable energy - the original mill was water-powered, after all! Today, Hodgson Mill's production facility has state-of-the-art solar arrays and wind turbines to help provide electricity for our manufacturing plant. View a live dashboard of solar and wind power generated at our facility here.

Hodgson Mill has a sophisticated recycling program, in which 99% of materials brought into our facility are recycled! We also use Certified Recycled Paperboard for many of our products - and paperboard can be recycled again and again.

Bob Goldstein, Hodgson Mill President, says: “Our investment in renewable energy and recycling is just the right thing to do. We hope other manufacturers follow suit. If we all do a little bit, just think of the positive impact we could have on our environment. Our customers can always feel good about buying our high quality, wholesome products. We want them to feel great about the way we produce them too.”
