Baking provides meaningful time for parents to share with children and can be a very fun and inexpensive family activity!

Do you bake with your kids?

Hopefully, the answer is a resounding “Yes!” As we all know, for many parents the experience of baking with children can be messy and chaotic. But take heart. Kids in the kitchen do not have to mean a gigantic mess, burnt food or a headache for Mom, Dad or Grandparents. Hodgson Mill is deeply committed to home baking, and believes getting children involved in the kitchen early on can be a great way to bring the family together while giving kids a lifelong passion for baking. Anytime spent together is a valuable investment towards your future as a family.

The kitchen holds many opportunities for teaching kids as well as having fun. It's never too early to interject the importance of healthy cooking and eating. What better example than to learn from mom and dad.

For instance, measuring solids and liquids, dividing ingredients, and stirring and mixing are all tasks even a small child can do with a little supervision. Independence, accomplishment, responsibility and creative expression are just a few of the benefits to be gained by children as they learn how to bake. Plus, it's a great activity to share as a family and can help forge some lasting memories and family traditions to pass down from generation to generation. Try our International Recipes for some examples.

Let's start out with simple recipes, the proper tools, and a great attitude. Hodgson Mill hopes our tips and kid-friendly recipes listed below will make your family baking fun even more enjoyable. Now, slip on an apron, call your kids to the kitchen, and let’s get cooking!
