Our Pet Gallery would not be complete without displaying the winner of Hodgson Mill’s “Send Us Your Pet’s Favorite Recipe Contest” ~ Donna Carter from Missouri! We asked Donna what caused her to start making healthy treats for her pets. She told us, “I like the fact that I know what is going into the treat when it’s made at home - no animal by-products and chemicals.” Donna’s cats, Peggy and Gadget, are the ones who benefit from Donna’s concern for their well-being. The winning recipe for Chicken Crunchies for Cats can be viewed in Our Recipe Collection.

Gadget & Peggy are not the only animals in the Carter household as you can see from the photo above. "We have 8 adult dogs and 2 senior cats. I like making homemade foods for my husband and myself, so why leave out the kids? Maybe Mom will bake them some cookies if they are cute enough!" Donna's other pet recipe, Chicken Liver Cookies is definitely her dog's favorite!

Regional Sales Manager Jeff Schreiber's 5 year old Golden Retriever Daisy is highly spoiled! Daisy loves eating pizza with the Schreiber family using our Hodgson Mill Whole Wheat Pizza Dough. She knows when the pizza is coming out of the oven and is relentless with her pursuit for free pieces of the crust. Jeff says she is very good at using her "puppy eyes".

Golden Retrievers are lovable, intelligent, sociable, self-confident, sensitive dogs with good memories. They are very people-oriented and love to please. A wonderful family dog, they adapt well to a variety of situations and are not given to barking very much. Golden Retrievers learn quickly and remember what they have learned for the rest of their life.

This beautiful American Brittany is Munch, a longtime friend of Rita Barns, one of our employees. Munch is now 13 years old, a retired show dog and accomplished birddog. Rita has also been a friend to Hodgson Mill for over 7 years.

Like Munch, most Brittanys are energetic and sporting animals. They love to run, romp, and play. The Brittany is regarded as the smallest of the versatile gun dogs; able to point and retrieve game in open country or dense cover. Brittanys will also make a fine family pet and a gentle friend at home.

Emma Verdeyen proudly shows off her cat, Missy, who loves attention. Missy is 2 1/2 years old, part Siamese and part Russian Blue. Emma's daughters, Molly and Megan treat her just like another member of the Verdeyen family. As a matter of fact, they often play hide and seek with Missy when they get home from school!

Siamese and Russian Blue cats have many similarities. Both are curious, loving and strikingly attractive. One of the most outstanding features of the Russian Blue is its short, dense coat of a bright blue color with each hair dipped in silver.

J.J., Honey and Laddie are the Fox Trotters with Bob Goldstein on their annual vacation through the Serbis National Forest in Colorado.

Fox Trotters are known for their gentle disposition, great versatility and, of course, their wonderful gait. The distinctive Fox Trot rhythm is created by the front foot touching the ground a split second before the opposite rear foot. The Fox Trotting Horse gives the illusion of a horse walking in the front and trotting in the back. Bred for soundness, stamina and willingness to please -these horses are ideal for ranch work, trail riding, hunting and endurance riding.

Basset Hounds, Beagles, Plott Hounds and Weimaraners all have excellent tracking abilities. The Basset Hound originated in France and was bred primarily for rabbit hunting. They have a very gentle nature and are frequently called "armchair clowns". Plott Hounds were originally bred to hunt bear and wild boar. In our country, however, their marvelous treeing abilities have made them very popular. These dogs also are very gentle and they love being talked or sang to. The Weimaraner originated in Germany. The breed was kept in Germany until the 1930's for fear of overpopulation. The Weimaraner has been used by hunters to track game of all sorts including deer, elk and bear! Weimaraners are intelligent, brave & loyal, as well as protective.
