Quash Those Cravings!

Hodgson Mill always likes to sound the horn in favor of moderation. While indulging yourself once in a while is acceptable (maybe even healthy psychologically), cravings can easily turn into everyday occurrences. It’s time to find ways to quash them. Here are some crave-quenchers:
•    Go for strength. Strong-tasting foods like olives, pickles and hot peppers are overwhelming to your taste buds, which experts say cuts cravings right at the outset.
•    Chew gum.  It keeps your jaw going, your mouth moist, and it’s sweet!
•    Brush your teeth.  Ever notice how nothing ever tastes very good after you brush?
These little tricks can give your taste buds a quick jolt, enough time to dodge the craving for a little while. Most cravings subside after a few minutes if the mind is redirected to think about other things. If your craving hangs around after 30 minutes, limit yourself to a small portion of the item in question. What happens if the tricks don’t work?  Just pick yourself up and try again. It’s the things you do most often that determine success in the long run – not the slip-ups you meet along the way. That’s a perfectly noble resolution for the new year.
